Recreational and Sporting Injuries in Children

There is a medical aphorism that children are not little adults and shouldn’t be managed as such. This presentation is a review of the epidemiology, mechanisms, diagnosis and treatment of sports’ injuries in children and a consideration of some of the special concerns in treating this population. Awareness of demands in different sports may help guide the clinician in offering advice about prevention as well as pitfalls in treating the child athlete.
