After the tremendous destruction from the earthquake in the historical little town of L’Aquila. Italy (between Roma and Pescara) and in its surrounding region, three Italian Chiropractors from the area volunteered to help by offering a chiropractic service on a voluntary basis. Soon the AIC got involved when AIC President John Williams visited the area and made a contract with the Red Cross to organise on a voluntary basis, chiropractic care for all those people working on the reconstruction (some 9.000 to10.000 people from the Red Cross, the Firemen and the Civil Protection). The AIC have started this help with great success and have already received a wonderful letter of thanks from the Red Cross for this exceptional collaboration.
With the preliminary reconstruction efforts expected to last for at least 6-7 months, this is an enormous task for a single association. Therefore to help AIC to make front of this situation, the ECU has proposed its help through its members, the NAs. We think of a “HH – Help Holiday” concept where a chiropractor would take this as a part time holiday, working one day, going on the beach, the mountains or visiting Rome the next day. This could be true for one or two weeks when possible.
An alternative would be to contact a chiropractor working in Italy, and make some exchange of practise, work and house for that period of time that suits you. Or you could be the guest of your classmate while working in L’Aquila...
As a final alternative, the Red Cross proposes to offer you full accommodation under professional tent. Again, that’s the cheapest solution and can be the experience of your professional life, useless to say that it also gives a lot of renown and credibility to our profession.
